Apple Tech Update

Learn about the next version of Mac OS X announced at WWDC, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as well as new hardware products. This meeting will be held at the Legacy Village Apple Store in Lyndhurst, OH. The store is about 15 minutes east of the Case campus on Cedar Rd., before Beachwood Mall in the new Legacy Village shopping center. Unix Shell Scripting 101

Want to learn how to write scripts to perform common functions automatically? Then attend this interesting talk on UNIX shell scripting. Amitai Schlair, contributor to the BSD pkgsrc project, will discuss the process of writing and executing shell scripts under Mac OS X.

Using Final Cut Express

Presenters: Bradley Farnsworth, Stuart Robbins, Dhruv Kalra

SIGMAC officers Bradley Farnsworth, Stuart Robbins, and Dhruv Kalra will demonstrate how to use Apple's mid-range video editing software, Final Cut Express. Learn some of the basics of non-linear editing as well as some more advanced topics like chroma keying, titling, filtering, importing media, and encoding and delivering your presentation in DivX, MPEG-4 or DVD. Also, Dhruv will talk about the differences between Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro.

There will be free pizza and soda provided.

Using Adobe Photoshop

Presenter: Stuart Robbins

SIGMAC secretary, Stuart Robbins, will cover basic diagram creation, photograph restoration, photograph manipulation, panorama creation from individual pictures, "pretty picture" creation from scientific data, and basic vector graphics using Adobe Photoshop. Basic vector tools and filters will be introduced, as well as several of the advanced color manipulation and layering techniques.

There will be free pizza and soda as well as a prize raffle at this event.

Installing Unix Software

Would you like to tap into the vast amount of UNIX software available that will run on Mac OS X? Then this is the talk for you. Amitai Schlair, contributor to the BSD pkgsrc project, will discuss how to use several popular package source programs that provide an easy interface to obtaining thousands of great pieces of software.
